We're Tootin' Your Horn | Gluten Free Playdough

Cheers to Daily Candy for shoutin' out about non-toxic, child safe playdough made with all natural ingredients....by ItsMadeAtHome, an amazing Etsy Shop.

Want a little bit of Playdough history? Did you know that Playdough was first introduced as a wallpaper cleaner? Appearing in 1956, an off white pliable dough was invented as an alternate form of "modeling clay". In 1965, Mr. McVicker applied for a patent. Little did he know that this clay would someday provide hours of child entertainment...capturing imagination and developing fine motor skills in children all over the world. Remember those card board cans? 1986 brought the new plastic containers sure to keep the brightly colored playdough soft and pliable. And what is it made of? That remains a secret but we know for sure that the recipe includes wheat flour and salt (yup, salt....a taste that left a lifetime impression).

Wheat flour? You got it! And for those kiddos who are allergic to Gluten, playdough is a no, no! For you moms that want an alternative....check out ItsMadeAtHome Gluten Free Playdough. Shouldn't every child be able to engage in Playdough fun?

Wiggle, Wiggle, Wiggle....Squirm!

A sneak peak| Bellflower Textiles Tooth Buddy Pillow!
Several fun printed styles (including a custom pink print) are arriving next week. We'll pair these amazing fun tooth fairy pillows with a special hardcover classic book. Check out the cute tooth pocket made for tooth fairy treasures. In our house, the tooth fairy is almost as "big" as Santa Claus. A great way to help those growing children celebrate changes. I know I was always scared but thrilled when a tooth was loose. Dreams of the tooth fairy made me brave! I have to say though as our classic kids "wiggle, wiggle, wiggle" those little white teeth....I still "squirm" inside!

From A Mother's Cupboard - Rainbow Layered Finger Jello

A good friend of mine from preschool (yes...preschool..long long time friends) always had yummy Rainbow Layered Finger Jello at her birthday parties. Eye catching and oh so good! The kids love them and a no mess snack for mom :)

Rainbow Layered Finger Jello

Colored Layers:

4 (3 oz) boxes of Jello

4 c boiling water

4 envelopes of Knox Gelatin

White Layers:

1 can Sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 c boiling water

1/2 c cold water

4 envelopes Knox Gelatin

Lightly grease a 9x13 pan. Mix 1 pkg jello with 1 env knox gelatin & 1 c boiling water. Mix til dissolved. Pour into pan, remove any bubbles using a fork and place in fridge on a flat surface. Let set 15 min while mixing white layer.

Put 4 envelopes knox gel in a bowl. Pour 1/2 c cold water over powder and stir, let set. Pour 1 1/2 c boiling water over mixture and whisk. Add 1 can sweetened condensed milk and stir. Pour 1 c of milk mixture over the set jello and refridge for 10-15 min.

Repeat layers as many times as you want. The milk recipe will make 4 layers. If the milk mixture thickens too much while waiting for the jello to set, you can place it in the microwave for a few second until it melts...stir again to smooth out. Cut into rectangles or us cookie cutters to make cute shapes. Have fun & experiment with different colors. Red/White for VDay, Red/Green for Christmas etc

Anchors Away, My Dear

Rileyroos are arriving weekly and are shipping Free!

Your little tyke will be hoisting their anchor and sailing away in our new Rileyroos Sandals!

At our customers request....we've been hunting for more great classic styled shoes for little boys (and girls of course). Our classic tale kids have been testing out their Rileyroos and I must say....they're smooth sailing!

Rileyroos design inspiration comes from a combination of European fashion trends and American spirit and casualness. The line is designed to imitate barefoot walking and to protect little feet. The sole of a Rileyroos shoe is flexible and its rubber-padded sole curls above the toes to provide leverage as a child begins crawling. Unlike many heavy or bulky first walking shoes, Rileyroos’ lightweight construction and protective bottoms support a child’s foot as he or she starts walking and provides traction to prevent falls on slippery surfaces.

Seven styles here...many more arriving weekly. Just in Dakota Sporty Sandals, Chessie Fisherman Sandal, Sporty Tiger & Sporty Wahoo. Currently offered up to age 24 months, the Rileyroos brand will soon go up to size 12 youth.

Happy Easter!

The Easter Egg
I take an egg
All shiny white
And then I dip
It out of sight.

I leave it there
Within the cup
Then after a minute
I pick it up.

And oh!
It's a lovely
Shade of green!
The prettiest Easter egg
I've ever seen.

One of our favorite classic memories....coloring Easter eggs! Our kiddos went to bed this evening with the tips of their fingers tinted a rainbow of colors. True signs of Easter fun!!

Whatever your belief or tradition, A Classic Tale wishes you wonderful day spent with family, friends & loved ones. Happy Easter!!

Richard Scarry Classics - Back in Print

"Its the fun I want to get across." - Richard Scarry

American artist and writer Richard Scarry created more than 300 books that have sold over 200 million copies worldwide. Scarry considered himself an entertainer disguised as an educator and few children’s book authors have equaled him in that role. “Everything has an educational value if you look for it,” he once said.“But it’s the fun I want to get across.” And he did, with a wacky gorilla in a bananamobile, a bagpipe-playing pig, a one-legged worm called Lowly, and plenty of things that go crash, smash, and splat in a winningly slapstick style.

Two Richard Scarry Classics are back in print and available at A Classic Tale! Now, a new generation of kids can fall in love with his wonderful stories, colorful art and irresistible characters. Check out the matching Mudpuppy Richard Scarry Puzzles too!

Two Classics Now in Print:
1) Find your ABC's...read more
2) Peasant Pig and the Terrible Dragon...read more

About Us - A True Classic Tale

Our ClassicTale...

Once upon a time, in the noble Kingdom of Wash Ington there was a castle. This charming, little castle sat snuggly on a hill overlooking a dancing, blue bay. And in this castle there lived a princess, Princess Entre Preneur. Full of fun and vigor, this princess enjoyed a happy childhood full of charm and joyful memories. She pranced through her castle exploring the Realms of Imagination. She roamed the gardens and read of worlds unknown under swaying poplar trees. She even waded in the shimmering water, scooping up little creatures of mystery. Yes, this princess had a storybook childhood full of life, love, and laughter.

As the happy years passed, the child-princess grew into a lovely young woman. Princess Entre became slender and graceful with dark, flowing hair and sparkling hazel eyes. As she approached the end of her childhood, she prepared for the journey that every princess must make, the Journey of Growing Up. She left her fine King and gentle Queen for an unknown land, the Land of Coll Ege. There the princess learned all the lessons of grace and courage that could be so taught.

One day, as Princess Entre strolled though the Orchard of Bliss in the Land of Coll Ege, a handsome, young prince rode gallantly by. He gave her a smile that spoke of eternity. In that moment, her heart was freely and lovingly bound to him forever. And so Princess Entre Preneur and Prince Ed. U. Cator. were married and set to live happily ever after.

And happily ever after they did live, until the night of their first son’s birth. Medical complications threatened this young life and though he escaped death’s dark clutches, in the end, he did not remain unscarred. Princess Entre’s beautiful baby boy would have physical repercussions that would last a lifetime.

It was then that the Princess awoke from her dreams of a perfect world. Prince Ed and Princess Entre moved to the Kingdom of Re-Ality. There the Princess tenderly cared for the needs of her son. She loved him and held him and taught him to hope. Through her child, the Princess discovered the miracles of devotion and innocence—lessons she could never have learned in the Kingdom of Wash Ington or the Land of Coll Ege. The Princess discovered that real life is full of Beauty—that each person has a story and each story is wonderful and unique.

With this newfound knowledge, the Princess endeavored to share her finding with the world. She wanted people to know that their tale is one worth living—one worth sharing. So, the Princess Entre became wiser and now, as she discovers Beauty in the world, she offers it to her three beautiful children and to people like you who are living and loving their Classic Tale.

The End.
